Tips to make traveling better

Submitted by Wanderlust Andi

Planning a road trip for Memorial Day? You can make it enjoyable by following a few tips:

First, don’t plan too much - you will want to spend time just exploring as much as possible. One of my favorite lessons was from a Swiss tour guide who responded with "You Americans, you try to do too much" when we asked how to go up the mountain AND see the castle a down the road - in a day. We ended up just seeing the castle - at a leisurely pace - and completely enjoyed ourselves.

Walking is the preferred method of travel once you arrive at your destination. You will be able to stop and see the interests along the way - without wasting time to find where to park your car.

You’ll want to keep your packing to a minimum. Pack, then take 20% out - then, rinse and repeat. Your back will thank you - and you will have more time to sightsee vs. spending a ton of time re-packing when you leave the hotel.

If you are traveling abroad, know that the US has it better than most. So, be humble about what you do and see. Also, be considerate of the local customs and culture. And, learn some of the language - it can take you far.

Look for local restaurants where the meals may be less expensive, you can eat the local cuisine, and hear the local chatter.

Exercise when you can, in the gym, or naturally. Even better, just get out and walk - even if just around the hotel. It is surprising what you will find - while exercising.

Most of all - slow down and concentrate on just enjoying your travels.
