Travel tips for road warriors on the move and extended stay travelers who like long term vacations.
Submitted by Wanderlust AndiFor many people, traveling does not always mean a summer vacation to a warm and relaxing destination. Whether for business or pleasure, many of either choose to, or have to, travel during winter and to more harsh climates. This inherantly leads to a myriad of issues not typical of a tropical excursion, but it does not have to mean a disatrous or miserable trip. Follow these steps to ensure your cold-weather travels are just as pleasant as your warm weather ones.
The tip I find the most poignant is the tip about "getting a cover for your car". It could easily be a pain to carry, but I do, indeed, have a pock-marked car due to hail. For, you most likely will be parking your car outside. And, without a car cover, the only thing you can do is watch, helplessly, as your pretty car gets dinged.
The other good tip is make sure you have all your equipment. If you carry iPhones, iPad,s etc., you will particularly want to double-check to ensure all of your chargers are packed. Buying those chargers on the road is expensive. And, if you go to a very small, remote town - there is a chance you won't even find a charger in town.
I have been on the road for more than 2 years, with a high percent of those hotels being extended stay hotels (specifically Extended Stay American and, right now, Extended Stay Canada). I must say that the ability to have a "real" kitchen (a real counter with a stovetop, microwave, cabinets and refrigerator (oftentimes a full-sized refrigerator) is very convenient. Heck - even if you are staying for only a couple days, it is nice to have a place to make your own coffee (and store your cream), without balancing your coffee-makings on top of a microwave (which is on top of a mini-fridge).
And, if you are going as a tourist, sometimes it is nice to buy the local food products and make your own food, and relax in your hotel room after a long day of tourist stops.
